TRYP BRISBANE / CHUR & UP

DATE: 2014 | LOCATION:  Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, QLD

Shane Denman Architects were engaged to give the TRYP on Constance development a theme and provide interior design for the hotel, bar/restaurant ‘Chur’ and also design and obtain DA approval for the rooftop bar ‘UP’.

Hotel operators TRYP are an international boutique chain and have art style hotels in the USA and throughout Europe.  Their Constance Street premises is the flagship hotel in Australia so they were looking for something that fitted their mould.

Original inspection of the derelict building uncovered substantial and impressive graffiti/street art and inspired us to feature artwork in our interior design and external theming.  In-house detective work identified the original artists who were contacted to see if they were interested in contributing their individual styles to a floor each plus some external pieces.

Overall, the existing building was salvaged and levels added (main structure documented by M+M), plus a rooftop bar designed and documented by Shane Denman Architects, who also did all interior design and detailing.

Original, rustic elements of the building were restored such as 150-year old recycled timber flooring and provide a striking contrast with modern custom-designed fixtures, fittings, furniture and artwork.
