Located between coastal suburban development and beach shacks, Cypreś elevates itself to capture spectacular views over the Gold Coast coastline and Hinterland.

A second dwelling recently built at the rear of the site by the client ultimately determined the footprint of the new home. Restricting the ground floor footprint and appreciating the glorious views once we got above ground level, we explored vertical construction and how to achieve a family home within these constraints. The narrow vertically stacked form encapsulates modest design and subtle detail over 4 levels and creates a vernacular that is different than that of its surroundings, with subtle weathering warm tones and refined form.

The external materiality is embraced internally throughout the project, the selection of light oak flooring and joinery complementing the mid-tones of the aging cypress cladding. The restrained material palette throughout frames a coastal home illuminated by natural light.
