BURLEIGH BEARS
DATE: 2004 | LOCATION: Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, QLD
The Burleigh Bears is a Rugby League Club located on a large parcel of council lease land in the Pizzey Park Sporting precinct. The existing club has been renovated and added to over many years and was a mix of styles and finishes. The main public areas didn’t relate to the sporting field and the gaming area was a long gun barrel type layout.
The staging of the project was quite complex to allow trading to continue during construction. The works were completed in two stages. The redesign and additions to the existing and additions to the existing incorporated large areas being demolished with safety being paramount for both patrons and staff. Most areas were new, but all other areas were renovated including the kitchen and toilets. A first-floor commentators’ room and corporate suites were added with unobstructed viewing to the playing field.
The gaming area has a large volume ceiling area with suspended panels and state of the art fibre optic lighting. New facilities incorporating bars, coolrooms and associated services were designed. New entry and porte-cochere with a substantial strutted winged roof establish a dynamic entry point. Banded blockwork, Colorbond and coloured render also add to the appearance of the club ensuring low maintenance. All interior design and documentation were carried out in-house including all material selections, finishes and specialized lighting.
